Mountaintop residence, Humphries Gap, Amherst County, Virginia:

Set high and secluded in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the compact footprint of this three story passive solar home design was fitted within the existing trees and the topographic limits of its radically sloped site. A serenity of experience, minimal reliance on offsite resources and a feeling of secure durability of form and materials were paramount to the owners' values and expectations. All the home’s primary living functions are located on the ground floor including the universally accessible porches, the western entry and the eastern screened eyrie.
