Residence along the Maury River, Rockbridge County, Virginia

This direct-gain passive solar home uses an insulated concrete slab for thermal mass to absorb and release daytime solar gains from the large (summer shaded) south facing windows with dramatic views of the Maury River cliff nearby. The south facing screenporch has a high flying overhang for full summer shading and an operable window wall on it’s north side to extend comfortable seasonal use well into late fall and early spring. This compact one-story home uses an attached outbuilding for the owners small farm service functions and guest quarters.
